Conventional LASIK is a vision correction procedure that involves creating a flap (a thin layer) on the cornea. This flap is lifted to allow the laser to reshape the corneal tissue, after which the flap is repositioned. SiLK is a non-flap LASIK procedure that creates a lenticule (a thin corneal tissue layer) using an ultra-low energy laser with sub-micron precision. The lenticule is then removed through a micro-incision, without creating a corneal flap.

The key advantage of this non-flap Lasik technology is that the corneal structure remains more stable, the risk of flap-related complications is minimized, and patient comfort and safety during and after the procedure are enhanced.
